About Winfred Chiles

A Licensed Social Worker Who Knows
What It Means to Keep Going

Winfred Chiles is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master of Social Work from the University of Oklahoma and over ten years of experience in social services and mental health. His career has been defined by service — to country, to community, and to the individuals who need it most.

"I believe therapy should feel like a space where you can show up honestly without fear of judgment. My goal is to help clients feel understood, supported, and equipped to create meaningful change in their lives."

Before founding RISE, Winfred served as a tribal case manager working with deprived child welfare cases, a health and wellness coach with the Department of Veterans Affairs, and a suicide prevention trainer delivering the Talk Saves Lives program to community members and professionals across Oklahoma. Each role deepened his understanding of the systemic barriers, cultural pressures, and deeply human struggles that bring people to therapy.

He holds advanced training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS), and health and wellness coaching — a toolkit built specifically to support individuals facing trauma, depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and life transitions with practical, evidence-based strategies.

Winfred is a veteran of the United States Air Force and a citizen of the Muscogee Nation. These experiences are not background — they are central to how he works. His practice is grounded in culturally informed, compassionate care for veterans, Native communities, and anyone navigating environments that ask more of a person than most people ever understand.

Understanding DBT

What Is Dialectical
Behavior Therapy?

DBT is not regular talk therapy. It's a structured, skills-based treatment program developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan — and it's the most rigorously researched treatment in the world for borderline personality disorder and chronic suicidality.

Mindfulness

The foundation of all DBT skills. Learning to observe thoughts and emotions without judgment — present-moment awareness that interrupts automatic, destructive reactions.

Weeks 1–6

Distress Tolerance

Crisis survival skills. Concrete tools for getting through moments of intense pain without making things worse — replacing self-harm with skills that actually work.

Weeks 7–15

Emotion Regulation

Understanding the function of emotions, reducing vulnerability to emotional extremes, and building positive experiences that create a life worth living.

Weeks 16–24

Interpersonal Effectiveness

Skills for asking for what you need, saying no, maintaining self-respect, and preserving relationships — even during conflict and emotional intensity.

Weeks 25–33

Standard Therapy

Weekly sessions with no structured curriculum
No skills group — skills learned in isolation
No between-session coaching support
No structured program arc or graduation
Not specifically designed for BPD or suicidality

Comprehensive DBT at RISE

Structured 6-month program with 4 skill modules
Weekly skills group — the evidence-based standard
Phone coaching for real-time crisis skill use
Clear roadmap from intake to graduation
Gold-standard treatment for BPD & suicidality
What We Offer

A Complete DBT Program,
Not Just a Weekly Session

Most therapy platforms offer access. RISE offers a structured, multi-modal treatment program — individual therapy, skills groups, phone coaching, and a clear 6-month arc from crisis to stability.

DBT Individual Therapy

Weekly 50-minute sessions following the DBT target hierarchy — addressing safety first, then quality of life, then building toward a life worth living. Diary cards, skills review, and genuine therapeutic relationship.

Adults & Teens 13+

DBT Skills Group

The cornerstone of comprehensive DBT. 90-minute weekly groups — max 10 participants — covering all four modules: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness.

Adult & Teen Groups

Teen DBT (Ages 13–17)

Adolescent-adapted DBT with a parent skills component — because the research is clear: teen outcomes improve significantly when caregivers are part of the process.

Ages 13–17

Phone Coaching

Between-session coaching to help apply DBT skills in real-time moments of distress. Structured availability windows — support when it matters, without replacing your sessions.

Included in Program

Trauma-Focused CBT

For clients where unprocessed trauma drives emotional dysregulation and behavioral patterns. TF-CBT integrated alongside DBT for a comprehensive, trauma-informed approach.

Adults & Teens

Telehealth Sessions

All services available via HIPAA-compliant video platform. Research confirms telehealth DBT is clinically equivalent to in-person — accessible from anywhere in Oklahoma.

DBT skills for managing mood episodes, impulsivity, and interpersonal effectiveness — coordinated with your prescriber for a fully integrated approach.

Self-Harm & Self-Injury

Distress tolerance and emotion regulation skills provide concrete, proven alternatives to self-harm and break the behavioral cycle at its root.

Emotion Dysregulation

For teens and adults who feel emotions intensely, react in ways they later regret, and have struggled to find skills that actually work in the moment.

Anxiety & Depression

CBT and DBT skills for managing persistent anxiety, low mood, and the patterns of thinking that keep people stuck — practical tools that work beyond the therapy room.

Veterans & Native Communities

As a USAF veteran and citizen of the Muscogee Nation, Winfred brings lived experience and cultural understanding to serving veterans, Indigenous people, and others navigating high-stress environments and systemic barriers to care.

Client Voices

What Clients Experience
at RISE

Replace these with real client testimonials once your practice is active. The quotes below illustrate the outcomes DBT programs produce.

I had seen four therapists before coming to RISE. None of them had the tools to actually help me manage the intensity of what I was feeling. The skills group changed how I relate to my own emotions. For the first time, I feel like I have options.

Adult Client, Age 28 — Placeholder

As a school counselor, I needed someone I could trust with my highest-need students. Winfred is thorough, communicative, and genuinely skilled with adolescents who've been through a lot. He's my first call for DBT referrals.

School Counselor, Tulsa — Placeholder

My daughter was struggling with self-harm and we felt completely lost. The teen group gave her tools we could both understand. The parent component helped me support her in a way that actually worked. We're in a completely different place now.

Common Questions

Everything You Want
to Know Before Calling

How long does DBT therapy take?

A full DBT program at RISE spans approximately 6 months and covers all four skill modules: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. Many clients continue with a step-down or maintenance approach after completing the core program.

What is DBT and how is it different from regular therapy?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a structured, evidence-based treatment developed specifically for people who struggle with intense emotions, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and borderline personality disorder. Unlike traditional talk therapy, comprehensive DBT includes individual sessions, a weekly skills group, phone coaching, and a therapist consultation team — not just weekly appointments.

How much does therapy cost? Do you accept insurance?

RISE Wellness accepts several insurance plans including Cigna, Aetna, Carelon Behavioral Health, Ascension (SmartHealth), and Quest Behavioral Health in Oklahoma — credentialing is currently in progress. Private-pay sessions are $170–$180. A limited number of sliding scale spots ($90–$120) are available. Superbills can be provided for out-of-network benefits.

Do you offer DBT therapy for teenagers?

Yes. RISE Wellness offers adolescent-adapted DBT for teens ages 13–17, including a parent skills component. Research consistently shows that teen outcomes improve significantly when caregivers are actively involved in learning and practicing DBT skills alongside their child. Monthly parent skills sessions are included.

Is telehealth DBT as effective as in-person?

Yes. Multiple studies confirm that telehealth DBT produces outcomes equivalent to in-person delivery. All RISE services are available via HIPAA-compliant video platform to clients anywhere in Oklahoma. The skills and structure of the program are identical regardless of format.
